How do you think Buffy has influenced the contemporary vampire drama “True Blood” and the “Twilight” series of novels and films?

I definitely think Buffy influenced the recent outbreak of vampire dramas. The characters in True Blood and Twilight are very similar to the characters in Buffy. Apart from the obvious fact that all dramas are based on vampires, all three of them have werewolves, and in Buffy and True Blood have witches and demons. I personally watch both True Blood and am a fan of the Twilight series, and when I was younger I watched Buffy, this makes it easier for me to see the prominent influence Buffy has had on the new shows.

The main theme in Buffy is basically a school girl destined to slay the evil vampires, but evidently there is much more to this storyline but that is basically the underlying subject. In True Blood the idea of the show is the relationships humans have formed with vampires and if it’s possibly to live harmoniously with vampires. The key premise of Twilight is a love story between a human and a vampire, which turns into a love triangle with a werewolf. All of these shows have the same essential themes, and all include various different love stories. In Buffy the protagonist has a strong connection with a vampire named Angel who is a ‘good vampire’ and in Twilight Bella has a relationship with Edward who is also a ‘good vampire’, I think Twlight was definitely influenced in that sense of having sexual and loving relationships with vampires. True Blood also has a love story between vampire and human, Sookie falls in love with vampire Bill and vampire Eric, thus making all of these shows subsequently similar. Essentially without Buffy I’m not sure either True Blood now Twilight would around today.
