What is the difference in emphasis between the terms science fiction and speculative fiction? Which is The Man in the High Castle?
Just depends on my own opinions, I do think that science fiction is speculative fiction, but speculative fiction is not necessarily science fiction. According to Brown,E (2001), in Dick’s early novels, the popular leitmotifs of SF was used, for example alien worlds, precognition, ray-guns, and so on, however, he putted them into his own agenda. He used SF to explore his obsession with metaphysics. He was obsessed with the idea that the universe was only apparently real. Later, in his works we might find that reality as perceived by both reader and protagonist is a hoax. In his works, he never gives reality up. He always put the sight of fact in his fiction.
The man in the high castle is a science fiction alternate history novel.
